Talascend is currently seeking a Petrochem Rotating Equipment Engineer for a contract opportunity located in Houston, TX.


  • Performs work using Client Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Plans, coordinates or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisition, bid evaluations and award recommendations for rotating equipment.
  • Coordinates Engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management.
  • Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
  • Reviews vendor drawings, calculations and other documentation.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and equipment counts for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.

  • In depth knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps and compressors) and electric motors.
  • Strong background with API 610 Centrifugal pumps and API 617 Centrifugal Compressors and gas seal systems.
  • Experience with Gas Turbines, Expander-Compressors / Expander-Generators, Steam Turbines, and Reciprocating Compressors is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Able to work in project groups with shared-work teams globally, to progress project designs.
  • Applicant must have BSME or equivalent degree.
  • Experience with field installation / commissioning activities for rotating equipment is preferred.
  • Applicant should identify specific equipment services they have been responsible for, such as BOG Compressors, Refrigeration Compressors, Wet Gas Compressors, Cryogenic Pumps, APCI License Technology, Conoco Philips License Technology, Refining/Coker Experience, etc.
  • PE preferred.

Grade 26 Requirement:

  • 12+ years of Rotating Equipment experience in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry codes and standards, as related to the equipment responsible for.
  • Able to provide training on rotating equipment systems for groups within and external to Mechanical Engineering, as required.
  • Participate in model reviews and equipment walkdown at vendor’s shop. Coordinate with other disciplines, vendor, and client to resolve comments resulting from model reviews and equipment walkdowns.
  • Able to identify technical hurdles and/or design issues proactively, to address them ahead of project critical path.
  • Interested in participating in code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).

Grade 27 Requirements:

  • Grade 26 qualifications PLUS…
  • 15+ years of Rotating Equipment experience in Oil and Gas industry.
  • Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
  • Interested in participating in code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).
  • Experience in writing equipment design specifications for rotating equipment.
  • Able to mentor junior mechanical engineers handling compressors, pumps and packaged equipment.
