Abu Dhabi holds 9% of the world’s oil reserves (98bn barrels) and roughly 5% of the world’s natural gas (6 trillion cubic metres). Oil production in the UAE was nearly 2.5m bpd last year and a number of projects are in progress to boost production to 3m bpd.
Focus has recently shifted toward natural gas, in line with increasing domestic consumption.
