Shelby Sands and Jacob Shermetaro are gaining invaluable experience in masterfully navigating the "work-life balance" required to successfully transition into their respective dream careers. Currently enrolled at Oakland University, both serve as dedicated recruiting interns operating out of Talascend’s national headquarters in Troy, Michigan, quickly evolving into vital components of our nationwide client delivery teams.
Shelby Sands
Shelby, a Senior at Oakland University, joined the Talascend workforce in January and is on track to graduate this spring with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Minor in Creative Writing. Seeking to remain tied to her local roots after graduating from Oxford High School (Class of '12), OU provided the perfect post-secondary environment. After exploring paths in veterinary medicine, education, and general business, she established her major in Communications upon identifying the vast strategic operational opportunities the discipline unlocks.

Shelby’s definitive career ambition centers on driving a direct corporate and social impact on the livelihoods of others, summarizing her vision perfectly: “I want to help people and change lives.” Heavily invested in regional volunteerism, she plans to continuously advocate for and strengthen K-12 anti-bullying initiatives, while simultaneously pursuing a lifelong ambition to write children's literature.

Jacob Shermetaro
Jacob, a matching Senior at Oakland University, graduated from Marine City High School in 2013. Following a successful athletic tenure that culminated in a state football championship during his senior year, Jacob initially weighed collegiate athletic tracks before acting on tactical guidance from his academic advisors to pursue OU’s specialized Human Resource Management (HRM) curriculum. Recognizing immediately that he was aligned with his exact professional calling, Jacob integrated into the Talascend corporate ecosystem in December 2017 and will secure his Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management this upcoming December.
"Talascend has allowed me to rediscover my passion to get into HR and ultimately stay the course. My goal of becoming a business owner or high-level executive is not too far out, and Talascend has confirmed that my hard work will pay off. Talking to people is by far the most important thing we all do, and this job has helped me fine-tune my communication skills and be economical in the way I speak to everyone that crosses my path."
