Our client is seeking a Sr. Engineer to design and deliver world-class Closures Systems for electric vehicle platforms.  This position is a contract role based onsite in Southfield, MI. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop automotive Closures Structures such as hoods, fenders, doors, decklids, and liftgates, with a focus on aluminum or composite materials and kinematic systems
  • Deliver high-performance, lightweight, durable, and cost-optimized systems at both system and component levels
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to integrate multiple systems efficiently
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Safety, Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, and Design
  • Use CAE analysis results to guide and improve designs
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure efficient production processes and build quality
  • Interface with Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, and Stamping on design and tooling changes
  • Develop and execute physical test plans to validate design concepts and meet performance targets
  • Analyze materials, section properties, and manufacturing processes for competitive benchmarking
  • Coordinate virtual and physical validation activities and maintain communication with suppliers
  • Lead design reviews and negotiate balanced solutions across teams
  • Apply GD&T to determine necessary tolerances
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution or equivalent experience in automotive closures systems
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive Closures systems at an OEM or supplier
  • Proven ability in system-level integration and experience with Class A surface data
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as CATIA V5/V6
  • Hands-on experience in prototype and production assembly
  • Experience selecting technologies, systems, and suppliers
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to perform under pressure
  • Detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset using first principles
  • Experience with design release, engineering change management, and project management
  • Knowledge of analysis tools such as ANSYS, OptiStruct, MatLab, ADAMS
  • Demonstrated creativity in solving mechanical design challenges
  • Experience with full development cycles from concept to production
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes for Closures Structures including casting, stamping, extrusion, and joining
