Test Engineer
Responsibilities
- Programming/commissioning/troubleshooting PLC and HMI across multiple platforms and control systems in a R&D environment
- Develop control system specifications from process flow diagrams (PFDs), or process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
- Support the Responsible Test Engineer during shakedown and testing of I&C systems in an R&D environment
- Review and revise procedures to align with HMI implementation in consultation with system operators and designers
- Evaluate commercially available control systems for cost, applicability, and scalability across the Natrium testing program
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities
- Demonstrate exemplary safety practices and foster a culture of safety in a testing environment
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trustworthiness and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
- B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree a plus.
- Experience with industrial instrumentation, automation, or robotics a plus
- Experience in design and application of experimental hardware, instrumentation, and engineering laboratory or industry best practices.
- Experience with common laboratory or industrial data acquisition hardware and software, such as National Instruments or Siemens
- Experience in the design of advanced control systems (e.g. SCADA/DAQ/PLC/DCS-based) including programming, configuration, HMI design, and interfacing with highly varied instrumentation and field devices.
- Experience with data acquisition and controls for complex engineering systems with many I/O signals from highly varied sensors and instruments
- Field experience in start-up/commissioning, troubleshooting, diagnostics, testing, and calibration of electrical/I&C systems
- Experience designing I&C systems for nuclear or high-temperature environments (>300 °C) a plus
- Qualified electrical worker a plus
- Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and technicians with demonstrated results
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
- Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems and provide recommendations in a timely manner
