Manufacturing Engineer
About the Role:
As a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer – General Assembly/DFM, you'll drive the full product and process lifecycle—from concept to large-scale production. You’ll interface with design engineering to ensure manufacturability, develop advanced tooling and processes, and play a key role in design-for-manufacturing reviews and continuous improvement.
- Review and assess product designs for manufacturability within General Assembly
- Provide detailed DFM (Design for Manufacturing) evaluations for product, tooling, and process plans
- Support concept, prototype, and production build phases
- Develop dimensional control strategies, PFMEAs, and Quality Control Plans
- Lead virtual build events and process validation activities
- Implement lean manufacturing, ergonomic assessments, and error-proofing strategies
- Conduct make vs. buy studies and cost impact evaluations
- Collaborate across design, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams
- Drive process documentation and mentor team members in best practices
- Present technical recommendations to executive leadership when required
- Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Engineering (required)
- Experience:
- 5+ years developing and launching complex assembly processes
- 5+ years of Tier 1 or OEM experience (required)
- Strong documentation skills (written & pictorial) for manufacturing processes
- Technical Skills:
- DFM, process optimization, PFMEA, and Lean methodologies
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint; CATIA / 3DX experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with prototype and production environments
- Soft Skills:
- Clear communicator, proactive mindset, and strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Creative problem solver with a passion for innovation
