Talascend is currently seeking a hybrid Supplier Quality Engineer with a leading automotive manufacturer located in Warren, Michigan.

Overview:

The main function of a Supplier Quality Engineer is to serve as the technical liaison between purchasing, product engineering, internal manufacturing, and external suppliers. This role is responsible for body and exterior parts molded plastic painted/plated plastics and steel parts along with lighting components.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements.
  • Review and approve supplier quality plans for new component parts and assemblies for new vehicle and or powertrain programs.
  • Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Implement and monitor supplier part qualification and certification processes.
  • Determine root cause of supplier manufacturing problems and implementing timely, effective, and efficient quality resolutions.
  • Improve quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required.
  • Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field required.
  • Technical and Quality Certifications preferred.
  • 5-7 years of experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive interior, exterior, body, chassis, electrical or powertrain quality, manufacturing and engineering functions.
  • Experience with injection molding, painting, etc. 
  • Experience SQMS is ideal
  • Experience with SPPs(supplier practical problem solving system) preferred
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Manufacturing Quality processes.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing and Tool Engineering processes.
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems Planning (APQP), including PPAP.
  • Ability to perform statistical problem solving (Red X, DFSS, DMAIC).
  • Proficient in print reading and interpretation, part measurement, gage design and function.
  • Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
  • Knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% (daily commutable and overnight combined).
  • Shift: remote possibility Tue- Thurs, on-site Monday & Friday
