Test Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Test Engineer located in Madison, Wisconsin.
Overview
This role involves supporting the design and development of test fixtures, writing test specifications and procedures, debugging production systems, and supporting sustaining engineering activities.
Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and validation of automated and manual test fixtures for PCBAs and system-level products.
- Create and maintain test specifications, procedures, and documentation aligned with product and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define test coverage and ensure design for testability (DFT).
- Develop and execute test plans for new product introductions (NPI) and production ramp-up.
- Perform hands-on testing and debugging of production systems and subassemblies, including digital and analog circuits down to the component level.
- Support sustaining engineering by investigating and resolving test-related issues in existing products.
- Drive lifecycle management activities such as component obsolescence, test system updates, and process improvements.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, improve yields, and reduce false failures.
- Participate in periodic business reviews with a cross-functional team and select suppliers.
- Interface with contract manufacturers and suppliers to ensure test readiness, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain test equipment and enforce ESD-safe practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field -OR- 3+ years of experience in Test Engineering, preferably in electronics manufacturing.
Requirements
- Experience with test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, signal generators, etc.).
- Strong understanding of PCB design, schematics, and debugging techniques.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair analog and digital circuits at the component level.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with automated test systems and fixture design (mechanical and electrical).
- Proficiency in test development tools and languages (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, Test Stand, C/C++).
- Experience supporting sustaining engineering and managing product lifecycle issues.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or ISO 9001 practices.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and global supply chains.
- Knowledge of component lifecycle management tools and change control processes.
