Talascend is currently seeking an MCFR Radioanalytical Chemist- Spectroscopist for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington (near Seattle).  

Overview

In this role, you will assist in the development of several spectroscopic techniques used to analyze molten salts for process monitoring and characterization. Collaboration is essential, as this position interfaces with a dynamic, cross-functional, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to design of experiments (DoE), collect spectroscopic data.
  • Assist in the development of spectroscopic techniques through execution of measurements needed to build calibration models.
  • Maintain spectroscopic equipment, lasers, and other related items (e.g gloveboxes).
  • Perform data analysis on spectroscopic results and present findings to broader project team.
  • Prepare routine, batched molten salt compositions to be used in ongoing MCFR R&D projects.
  • Prepare or assist with technical reports, peer review manuscripts, intellectual property documents, and conference presentations.
  • Maintain laboratory procedures (e.g., calibration, analytical methods, notebook results preparation, usage documentation).
  • Perform all work in compliance with site safety and radiation protection guidelines, including effective teamwork and communication with health physicists, authorized users and RSO.
  • Emphasize safety in new and existing designs and safe practices in all experimental activities.
  • Perform other general duties associated with position as member of the team to ensure ongoing effectiveness and continuous improvement of R&D efforts.

Qualifications

  • Master’s level degree in chemistry, radiochemistry, materials science, physics, or a related subject and 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s level degree in related disciplines and 0-4 years of relevant experience

Requirements

  • Demonstrated hands-on chemistry or physics laboratory experience and spectroscopy.
  • Laboratory experience in radiochemistry, and/or molten salts are preferred but not required.
  • Understanding of at least spectroscopic characterization methods that include but are not limited to absorption spectroscopy, LIBS, Raman spectroscopy, in addition to other common laboratory analytical techniques.
  • Familiarity with data analysis techniques and software (Origin or MATLAB).
  • Demonstrated experience working in inert and moisture-free atmospheres, such as gloveboxes and Schlenk lines is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in handling actinides in gloveboxes and fume hoods is a plus.
  • Experience working and communicating productively in a multidisciplinary team including R&D, production, quality assurance, and engineering design functions.
  • Ability to understand requirements (regulations, codes and standards, etc.) and incorporate them into documents.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills including technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
