Mechanical Design Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The role centers on mechanical analysis and scripting, beginning with property development for finite element analysis and evolving toward design scoping and analysis of reactor components.
Responsibilities
- Develop material models and support novel analysis methodologies in the Mechanical Design discipline
- Generate basic sizing calculations for reactor components
- Perform mechanical analyses using finite element method with commercial codes
- Study ASME BPVC Section III, Division 5
- Conduct technical reviews of designs and deliverables
Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university and 4+ years of relevant experience
- M.S. in Mechanical or related discipline with 2+ years of experience
Requirements
- Engineer in training (EIT) or licensed PE desired
- Recent experience with mechanical analysis software (ANSYS preferred)
- Recent experience with scripting software (Python and ANSYS APDL preferred)
- Familiar with material failure mechanisms and application of design standards and codes
- Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks preferred)
- Demonstrated hardware ownership
- Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
- Strong communication skills desired
