Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Overview

The role involves ensuring high-quality project delivery in electric utility design engineering, working directly with clients and gaining experience in various engineering areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV.
  • Comply with safety requirements and design quality expectations.
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading and voltage drop calculations.
  • Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET accredited institution

Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Collaborative attitude and inclusivity of individuals of diverse backgrounds and geographic locations.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Professional dress and demeanor.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc or similar.
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation and/or GIS.
  • Experience with NESC.
  • Experience with design standards.

Shift

Flexible work hours/work arrangements; some field work may be required.
