Talascend is currently seeking a hybrid Design Release Engineer, Powercell Components with a leading automotive manufacturer located in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Overview
Responsible for design, development, validation, and release of IC engine cranktrain components including pistons, piston rings, piston pins, connecting rods, and piston cooling jets. Drives components through the product lifecycle from concept to production release (PPAP), collaborating with manufacturing, quality, validation, suppliers, and purchasing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of cranktrain components ensuring alignment with engine and vehicle requirements.
  • Support CAD modeling, FEA, and other validation methods; refine concepts for functional, safety, reliability, and performance goals.
  • Manage design release milestones (B-Sample, C-Sample, PX0-X3) and maintain EBOM and CNs.
  • Drive PPAP for lubrication systems components and coordinate with cross-functional teams for production readiness.
  • Provide technical leadership to resolve design, material, and manufacturing challenges.
  • Lead DFMEA and participate in testing strategies (dynamometer, vibration, fatigue, thermal).
  • Collaborate with suppliers and validation teams to ensure manufacturability, performance, and fitment.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and report on project status, testing results, and risks.

Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited); BSEE or BSCE considered with relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years relevant experience with engine components (crankshafts, pistons, connecting rods, lubrication systems).
  • Experience via internships, Formula SAE, or race teams acceptable.
  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials, NVH, sealing systems, structural analysis, vibration, fasteners, CAE, GD&T.
  • Experience selecting materials and manufacturing methods; ability to author system/component requirements.
  • Strong communication, project management, and leadership skills.
  • Interest in IC engine design, testing, and development.
Preferred
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (engine systems focus).
  • Experience creating/executing validation plans.
  • Technical leadership in cranktrain or Powercell systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (preferably Siemens NX).
  • Familiarity with company engine development processes.
