Materials Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Materials Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Tempe, Arizona.
Overview
Provide technical expertise and support in the materials and process engineering of cast and/or forged products. You will collaborate across engineering teams to create solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of customers and participate in all phases of product development.
Responsibilities
- Support for materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of cast/forged parts
- Regular interaction with suppliers to help resolve issues
- Liaison work between suppliers and engineering, quality, supplier development engineers, and integrated supply chain
Qualifications
- Bachelors' Degree in STEM
- 4+ years of experience in materials/process engineering in the casting and/or forging industry
- 4+ years experience with aluminum, steel, titanium and nickel aerospace cast and/or wrought alloys
- Preferred: Bachelors Degree with specialization in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Preferred: Advanced degree in engineering or another related field
Requirements
- Understanding and hands-on experience in casting and/or forging
- Familiarity with industrial materials and processing specifications
- Familiarity with Nadcap and industry standards, requirements and approvals
- Capable of assessing new suppliers and determining their strengths and weaknesses
- Experience with conducting casting and/or forging supplier audits
- Working with and developing suppliers
- Experience troubleshooting material and process issues, and providing technical solutions for rapid problem solving
- Understanding engineering drawings and requirements
- Experience in Six Sigma, Lean and other process improvement tools
- Experience with casting and/or forging simulation tools like DEFORM
- Approximately 10% travel within the US to suppliers
