Talascend is currently seeking a Systems Administrator for a remote contract opportunity with our client.

Overview

This role involves supporting enterprise Windows server environments, managing Active Directory, DNS, and Certificate Authorities, and ensuring security and system hardening based on best practices. The position is remote with possible travel to the Washington, DC area, supporting a government program requiring a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and troubleshoot Windows Server operating systems supporting Active Directory, DNS, and Certificate Authorities
  • Manage and maintain Active Directory systems and related services
  • Administer DNS, certificate management, ADFS, SSO, and authentication tools such as Okta
  • Apply security controls and hardening based on NIST and DISA guidelines
  • Develop scripts to monitor system health and automate tasks
  • Manage certificate issuance and renewal to prevent outages
  • Install, configure, and maintain system software and updates
  • Design scalable and resilient infrastructure across physical, virtualized, and cloud environments
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and implement system solutions
  • Produce documentation detailing configurations, procedures, and solutions

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field, with 8+ years of relevant experience or master’s degree with 6+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in Active Directory, DNS, Certificate Management, and ADFS
  • Experience scripting with PowerShell
  • Hands-on support experience with Windows OS (Tier II & III support)
  • Knowledge of security hardening, patch management, and system performance tuning
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Entra
  • Knowledge of infrastructure automation and DevOps tools
  • Experience establishing large computer clusters
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional or CompTIA Security+
  • Government contracting experience, particularly with the Department of Justice
