Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Field Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Portland, Texas.

Overview

The Mechanical Field Engineer will support construction and installation activities related to the liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility project. The role involves providing technical assistance, conducting inspections, and coordinating with field supervision to ensure project specifications and standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and initiate supporting documentation for all discipline system installations on an ongoing basis.
  • Support field supervision in establishing manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements for work evolutions.
  • Prepare short-term and long-term schedules and interface with superintendents and discipline field engineers.
  • Execute field material takeoffs from "Issued For Construction" drawings.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking applications and report weekly installed quantities.
  • Prepare field material requisitions for equipment and materials, and monitor purchase order and delivery statuses.
  • Troubleshoot design issues, resolve engineering or fabricator concerns using formal documentation processes.
  • Ensure all installations comply with latest revisions of design drawings, specifications, standards, and codes.
  • Coordinate and resolve technical issues related to contractors providing services for the mechanical scope of work.
  • Complete and verify quality documentation per inspection and test plans.
  • Perform final system walk-downs, track deficiencies, and close out issues.
  • Review as-built documentation and monitor work performance against project budget and schedule.

Qualifications

  • Construction experience assigned to a construction site.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the work undertaken.
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes, acquired through specialized instruction or practical experience.
  • Effective communication skills for motivating teams and presenting plans clearly.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • University/B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 6 years of experience, or 10 years of equivalent industry experience in-lieu of a degree.
  • Experience managing technical services subcontracts.
  • Experience on LNG construction sites, especially along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
