Automotive Mechanic
Talascend is currently seeking an Automotive Mechanic for a contract opportunity with our client in Warren, Michigan.
Overview
The automotive mechanic role involves modifying cars and trucks in a prototype environment, performing diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance. The position requires independent project work and collaboration with customers and team members.
Responsibilities
- Maintain vehicle functional condition by working off repair orders or leader instructions and conducting inspections.
- Repair mechanical and electrical system malfunctions and replace parts and components.
- Read, interpret, and follow service procedures.
- Maintain vehicle records by entering notes, service, and repair orders.
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.
- Participate in daily shop organization and clean-up.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 4 years of work experience as a mechanic.
- Knowledge of mechanical assembly and ability to operate shop equipment.
- Good attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Has own tools with rolling toolbox and able to work overtime and weekends.
- Ability to read, comprehend and execute written procedures.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be a US citizen or US permanent resident allowing for ITAR compliance.
- Proficient in the use of maintenance tools, repair and special tools, diagnostic equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS) according to project expectations and technical manuals or work instructions.
- Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing military vehicle platforms (wheeled and tracked).
- Prior military service in a wheeled or tracked vehicle mechanic MOS (e.g., 91B, 91H, 3521, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Experience operating heavy equipment, tactical recovery vehicles, forklifts, or shop support equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Heavy equipment mechanic
- Diesel mechanic
- Certificate in automotive technology or related.
- National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s).
- State mechanic certification(s).
- Knowledge of vehicle alignments, air conditioning (A/C) system repairs, tire machines and balancers.
