Talascend is currently seeking an Environmental Laboratory Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Theodore, Alabama.

Overview

This role involves analyzing and documenting routine samples, performing instrument maintenance, validating instruments, and ensuring safety and quality compliance within the laboratory environment. The technician will interface with production and engineering teams and assist with training and certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and document routine samples from production and on-site customers
  • Interpret and evaluate results before reporting to production
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration on laboratory instrumentation, including inline and portable/hand-held instruments
  • Validate instruments by use of references and standards
  • Data entry into spreadsheet and SAP system
  • Review and follow written SOPs while assisting in maintaining all ISO documentation
  • Maintain dry storeroom (supplies)
  • Maintain clean and safe work area, participate in 5S programs and other continuous improvement initiatives
  • Attend safety meetings and comply with site EHSSQ goals and regulations
  • Support twelve-hour rotating day shifts with PTO coverage for other shift technicians
  • Assist in on-the-job training for new technicians
  • Maintain DMRQ certification
  • Coordinate, set-up, and perform whole effluent toxicity (WET) testing on vertebrate and invertebrate species as required
  • Interface with production and engineering teams to communicate analytical results
  • Use a company watercraft to collect samples, requiring watercraft certification and safe operation

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation and SOPs
  • Strong attention to detail and safety compliance
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in watercraft operation and maintenance
  • Experience with ISO documentation and WET testing

This is a daytime, rotating shift position from 5am to 5pm. No night shift is required.
