Talascend is currently seeking a Quality Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Livonia, Michigan.

Overview

The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, controlling, and assuring quality processes and product requirements are executed for a given customer program, including applicable site-specific requirements. The role involves employing tools and techniques to resolve deficient quality processes and output, ensuring program quality objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive quality plans to assure program quality objectives and customer requirements are satisfied and train affected personnel on quality plan elements.
  • Support compliance with ISO 9001 standards within assigned sites.
  • Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, developing and maintaining control plans and related documentation.
  • Assist in the assessment and selection of suppliers, resolving supplier quality issues when necessary.
  • Support incoming, in-process, and end-of-line inspections and testing, including equipment calibration or verification.
  • Track and resolve quality issues with customers and suppliers, managing Material Review Board (MRB) and Return to Vendor (RTV) processes and product disposition.
  • Approve and submit first-article Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents in support of program requirements.
  • Perform problem solving and continuous improvement activities related to process or product quality deficiencies.
  • Conduct written and verbal reporting, present quality findings, and participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Support reporting of Quality of Service (QOS) metrics for assigned operating groups and programs.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in a relevant manufacturing or technical field.
  • 3 years of related quality experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technically related field.
  • American Society of Quality (ASQ) certification.
  • Experience in APQP process preparation of PPAP documentation including submission to customer and a thorough understanding of problem-solving and quality improvement tools and techniques.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, related specifications, and requirements, and communicate them to cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of a quality management system and its implementation, with the ability to plan, control, and assure quality.
  • Understanding of the audit process including planning, preparation, execution, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Professional interaction on a technical level with all company functional groups, suppliers, and customers, along with strong PC skills.
  • Knowledge of second-stage vehicle conversion and upfit of vehicles is a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering skills is preferred.
