Talascend is currently seeking a Human Reliability Specialist for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.
Overview
The Human Reliability Specialist will focus on improving workforce performance, reducing human error, and strengthening operational excellence activities to support operational and safety objectives. The role requires collaboration across various teams to enhance human performance, organizational learning, and operational resilience.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for site-wide Human Reliability and Human Performance Improvement programs.
- Develop, implement, and sustain a comprehensive Human Reliability Program.
- Conduct assessments to identify human performance risks and recommend improvements.
- Facilitate Human Performance Improvement initiatives and promote best practices.
- Develop leading indicators and performance metrics for monitoring human reliability effectiveness.
- Support incident investigations by evaluating organizational and human performance factors.
- Develop and deliver training programs on human reliability and organizational learning.
- Coach supervisors and managers on leadership behaviors related to workforce performance.
- Facilitate lessons learned sharing, workforce engagement activities, and knowledge transfer initiatives.
- Support capital projects and facility modifications by providing human factors and operational risk input.
- Collaborate with leadership to strengthen safety culture, process safety, reliability, and operational excellence programs.

- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment and support quality commitments.
- Foster a trusting and respectful team environment.
- Maintain working knowledge of relevant standards such as ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety, Human Factors, Industrial Technology, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, energy, mining, or other high-hazard industries.
- Knowledge of Human Reliability Analysis methods, Human Factors Engineering principles, Process Safety Management systems, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Strong technical skills in Root Cause Analysis, causal learning techniques, data analysis, and organizational effectiveness principles.
- Demonstrated decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- System-thinking mindset, change management, and transformational leadership capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and build partnerships.
- Experience supporting high-risk industrial operations or large manufacturing facilities strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of change management and culture transformation methodologies preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certifications related to Process Safety, Reliability, Safety, Human Factors, or Operational Excellence.
- Experience facilitating Human Performance Improvement (HPI) initiatives.
- Knowledge of safety culture and operational risk management.
