Automation Engineer
SUMMARY:
The Automation Engineer (AE) individual is responsible in streamlining and optimizing data workflows across multiple platforms of Natrium’s Engineer-Procurement-Construction (EPC) partner’s systems, ensuring our client’s requirements and interests are met, and appropriately flowed down to the EPC and their suppliers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement automation workflows to connect and synchronize data between:
- Engineering databases (e.g., equipment/component databases, material traceability systems).
- BIM platforms (e.g., Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) used for nuclear facility modeling.
- Excel-based tools used for procurement schedules, equipment lists, and QA documentation.
- Ensure automated systems support regulatory compliance, traceability, and audit-readiness of data flows.
- Collaborate with nuclear engineers, QA/QC personnel, and procurement teams to identify pain points and automation opportunities.
- Develop and maintain custom scripts, ETL pipelines, and API integrations to streamline data transfers and reporting.
- Maintain rigorous documentation of automation logic, validation steps, and change control procedures.
- Support the digital transformation of nuclear procurement processes in accordance with NQA-1, ISO 19443, or equivalent standards.
- Provide technical support and training to end-users on new tools and systems.
REQUIRED TRAVEL:
- 5-10% initially but increasing as supplier oversight requires.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- US Citizen or Green Card Holder.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in system engineering design, procurement and construction of heavy industrial facilities, preferably in the commercial nuclear power industry.
- 3+ years of experience in automation, systems integration, or digital engineering roles.
- Proficient in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, VBA) and automation of data workflows.
- Familiarity with BIM tools (Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) and model-data integration.
- Experience with SQL databases, data extraction and transformation.
- Strong understanding of Excel automation, macros, and data validation techniques.
- Excellent documentation skills and experience in regulated environments.
- Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated sectors (e.g., aerospace, pharmaceutical, defense).
- Knowledge of nuclear quality assurance standards (e.g., ASME NQA-1, ISO 19443).
- Familiarity with nuclear digital systems, procurement software, or configuration management tools.
- Experience with cloud-based automation tools or digital twin platforms.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles for data systems in critical infrastructure.
