Engineer Tech II
Talascend is currently seeking a Engineer Tech II for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.
Overview
This is an entry-level technical role supporting electric distribution design for overhead and underground systems. The role involves assisting in data collection, drafting, and preparation of utility design documentation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and edit electric distribution design drawings based on field data and engineer input.
- Assist with design development using AutoCAD, GIS, and proprietary tools.
- Perform basic field data collection (e.g., pole measurements, photos, GPS logging).
- Support design teams by updating drawings and entering data into project databases.
- Help assemble permit packages and easement documentation.
- Conduct basic pole loading analysis (training provided).
- Perform initial self-checks before submitting design to formal QA/QC review.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1–3 years of experience in a technical, drafting, or construction support role
Requirements
- Basic proficiency in CAD or GIS software
- Willingness to work in both field and office environments
- Strong technical aptitude and eagerness to learn utility standards
- Willingness to ask questions and learn utility standards
- Able to follow procedures and work effectively in a team
- Eagerness to grow into more advanced roles with training
Preferred Requirements
- Coursework or certification in drafting, engineering tech, or GIS
- Prior experience with electric utility or telecom projects
- Familiarity with field data collection and digital mapping tools
Shift
Standard work hours, 5/40. No telework allowed.
