Principal Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Principal Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer for a long-term, 100% remote contract career opportunity with our client.

Overview
The PRA Engineer will support risk and severe accident analysis for an advanced reactor design. This role involves developing and using PRA models to guide design and licensing decisions, while collaborating with engineering and safety teams to ensure a reliable and safe plant.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to internal and external PRA activities in coordination with design and safety analysis teams
- Ensure PRA compliance with regulatory standards including NEI 18-04 and ASME/ANS
- Develop PRA planning and scheduling
- Provide technical guidance on reliability and PRA
- Participate in PRA peer reviews
- Develop event/fault trees, in-vessel transport models, and radiological release categories
- Define Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) functional, safety, and reliability requirements
- Document model development and analysis results
- Perform reviews of technical analyses and design documentation
- Use CAFTA and FRANX to update fault and event trees
- Perform risk integration and report metrics and importance measures
- Support trade studies with focused PRA analysis
- Conduct first-principal hand calculations to validate complex models
- Prepare topical reports and deliver technical presentations
- B.S. or M.S. in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering, or similar
- 15+ years of experience in Probabilistic Risk Assessment
- Knowledge of External Events PRA preferred
- Familiar with ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standard
- Understanding of risk-informed, performance-based regulations
- Knowledge in PRA fundamentals: data, HRA, accident and source term analysis
- Proficiency in PRA software, such as, CAFTA, FRANX; SAPHIRE, Risk Spectrum also valued
- Experience with tools like GOTHIC, MELCOR, RADTRAD is a plus
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Familiarity with sodium-cooled or advanced reactors preferred
- Broad understanding of multidisciplinary engineering in nuclear plant design
- High integrity, collaboration, and communication skills
