Talascend is currently seeking a Probabilistic Risk Assessment Engineer for a long-term, 100% remote contract career opportunity with our client.

Overview
The PRA Engineer will support the design of a safe and reliable Natrium reactor by developing and applying risk models to inform engineering and licensing decisions. This role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and strong communication skills.


Responsibilities

  • Perform internal and external PRA and severe accident analysis for the Natrium reactor
  • Coordinate with plant design, deterministic/consequence safety analysis, and engineering teams
  • Ensure PRA aligns with regulatory standards such as NEI 18-04 and ASME/ANS
  • Support planning and scheduling of PRA activities
  • Provide technical guidance on PRA and reliability topics
  • Participate in PRA peer reviews
  • Develop and maintain event/fault trees, radiological transport models, and release categories
  • Support SSC classification, LBE selection, and DID evaluations
  • Use CAFTA and other PRA tools to develop and update models
  • Perform PRA-based risk integration and focused analysis for trade studies
  • Conduct hand calculations to validate complex models
  • Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders
Requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in nuclear, mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in Probabilistic Risk Assessment
  • Familiarity with PRA principles and ASME/ANS Non-Light Water PRA standards
  • Experience with CAFTA and FRANX preferred; SAPHIRE or Risk Spectrum also considered
  • Knowledge of risk-informed performance-based regulations
  • Experience with external events PRA and severe accident analysis preferred
  • Proficiency in tools like GOTHIC, MELCOR, RADTRAD is a plus
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with sodium-cooled or other advanced reactors preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • Broad understanding of multidisciplinary nuclear plant design principles
  • Demonstrated integrity, teamwork, and respect for others
