Senior Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The role involves performing deterministic safety analysis for the Natrium sodium fast reactor, supporting licensing and safety evaluations through modeling and integration of plant systems using specific safety analysis codes.
Responsibilities
- Develop system models and perform safety analysis of anticipated operational occurrences, design basis events, and accidents for the Natrium reactor
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish safety, performance, and quality requirements for reactor systems
- Integrate licensing basis event analyses into documentation and project design activities
- Contribute to safety method development, including code assessment and validation activities
- Develop and maintain documentation of models and analysis results
- Perform engineering reviews of analysis and design deliverables
- Assess plant transient benchmark tests and perform relevant benchmark calculations
- Contribute to the software framework implementation for transient and accident analysis
Qualifications
- B.S. with 10 years of experience, M.S. or Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or relevant engineering degree, with a minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in the nuclear field
- Extensive experience in nuclear safety analysis and reactor system modeling
- Significant experience with safety analysis software such as RELAP5, TRACE, TRAC, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, or other nuclear system analysis tools
- Experience in transient and accident analysis submissions to NRC and understanding of nuclear systems fundamentals
- Knowledge of nuclear reactor physics, instrumentation, and safety analysis computer code modeling approaches
- Familiarity with nuclear regulatory requirements and risk-informed performance-based guidance for Non-Light Water Reactors
- Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical, modeling, and reporting skills
- Understanding of NQA-1 requirements and experience working within a quality assurance program
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex challenges
- Strong software engineering skills in languages such as Python, Fortran, or C++ are a plus
