Talascend is currently seeking a Project Controls Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Everette, Washington (State).

Overview

The Project Controls Specialist provides oversight and guidance to project teams, ensuring accurate and effective planning, scheduling, and execution of project planning. This role supports teams in developing robust schedules, monitoring progress, identifying critical paths, and providing strategic recommendations to achieve project milestones and deliverables on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance to project teams in developing comprehensive project schedules using critical path method (CPM) and scheduling tools.
  • Review and validate project schedules to ensure alignment with best practices and project execution strategies.
  • Ensure schedules incorporate all phases with logical sequencing.
  • Support project teams in identifying key performance indicators (KPIs) and establishing milestones.
  • Assist in resolving scheduling / planning conflicts and providing recommendations for optimization.
  • Oversee schedule development quality, ensuring accuracy and compliance with P6 schedule quality metrics.
  • Analyze quantity and cost information to predict trends and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Identify schedule constraints and provide oversight on mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor and report critical paths and overall schedule performance, advising on potential risks and improvement areas.
  • Conduct 'what-if' scenario planning to assess potential impacts and recommend corrective actions.
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure coordinated and well-integrated project schedules.
  • Provide expert insights and recommendations to project managers, clients, and stakeholders on schedule performance and forecasting.
  • Facilitate schedule review meetings, ensuring project teams address progress, challenges, and mitigation strategies effectively.
  • Support project management in conducting integrated reviews of planned work and ensuring alignment across disciplines.
  • Guide teams in developing cross-system and cross-project logic ties in the schedule.
  • Provide mentorship to project planning to enhance schedule accuracy and planning effectiveness.
  • Conduct lessons learned reviews to refine best practices and improve future planning efforts.
  • Oversee reporting accuracy and provide guidance on best reporting practices to ensure reliable schedule data.
  • Support teams in reviewing resource loading, leveling, and bulk commodity planning.
  • Advise on the effective use of computerized maintenance management systems for tracking work plans, asset history, and job performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 18 years of direct experience in project planning and scheduling within an EPC environment.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of project management principles and scheduling methodologies (CPM, critical path analysis).
  • Expertise in scheduling software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • Strong analytical skills for schedule assessment and strategic guidance.
  • Excellent communication and advisory skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of engineering and nuclear operations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead planning reviews and provide oversight on complex engineering and construction projects.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience providing oversight in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.
  • Background in engineering or construction management with a focus on planning and scheduling guidance.
  • Knowledge of overall operating fundamentals and principles of generating station systems, equipment, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and support project teams in schedule development and execution.
