Nuclear Shielding and Criticality Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Nuclear Shielding and Criticality Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Bellevue, Washington (State).
Overview
The role involves working on the Natrium Demonstration Project, focusing on nuclear shielding and criticality engineering tasks, primarily using MCNP software.
Responsibilities
- Perform MCNP calculations formally documented in calculation packages.
- Conduct radiation shielding calculations for both gammas and neutrons.
- Support engineering team with knowledge of nuclear reactor design concepts.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering with 10+ years’ experience
- M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering with 6+ years’ experience
- Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Engineering with 3+ years’ experience
Requirements
- Strong MCNP skills.
- Experience in criticality safety.
- Familiarity with variance reduction using MCNP.
- Knowledge of surface source read/write, mesh tallies, and weight windows.
- Familiarity with ADVANTG for weight windows generation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work within published regulatory guidelines.
- Experience working under NQA-1 quality program.
- Strong computational expertise.
- Experience with Attila /Attila4MC and computer-aided drafting (e.g., SolidWorks, SpaceClaim/ANSYS, Cubit).
- Fast reactor experience.
- Strong programming skills in any language, with Python commonly used.
- Travel required: None, although 2 trips to home office per year recommended.
