Vehicle Emissions Lab Technician-Chassis
Talascend is seeking a Vehicle Emissions Lab Technician to support operations in our client’s Vehicle Emissions Lab. The technician will provide vehicle chassis emission testing support, working closely with a team of technicians and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Perform setup and execution of worldwide automotive test cycles.
- Develop working knowledge of all VEL test equipment.
- Independently manage PM weighing chamber and deliver results to test reports within 24 hours.
- Prepare customer vehicles for emissions testing with minimal supervision.
- Perform vehicle preparation tasks, including fuel drain/fills, temperature soaks, carbon canister loading, tailpipe instrumentation, etc.
- Collaborate with VEL Engineers to configure test setups according to customer requirements.
- Provide mechanical support for vehicle shop operations.
- Install test vehicles on the chassis dynamometer, secure vehicles, set up exhaust connections, and position cooling fans.
- Process and analyze vehicle test bed data to verify emissions results and test validity.
- Develop a functional understanding of CVS, dynamometer, and emissions equipment systems to support troubleshooting and fuel economy/emissions calculations.
- Apply knowledge of 40 CFR Part 86, Part 1065, and Part 1066 as it relates to vehicle test operations.
- Ensure quality of test results through pre-test selections and post-test data checks.
- Identify and resolve equipment issues using new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Communicate issues and trends directly with VEL and Instrumentation Engineers.
- Collaborate with instrumentation engineers and management to improve efficiency, eliminate recurring errors, and develop new capabilities.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience with chassis dynamometer testing and CVS equipment operations.
- Knowledge of vehicle preparation for emissions testing, including inspections, exhaust leak checks, fuel handling, temperature soaks, carbon canister loading, and tailpipe instrumentation.
- Experience safely operating compressed gas bottles.
- Diagnostic skills for test system instrumentation and vehicle troubleshooting.
- Ability to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems.
