Annealing and Pickling Line Operations Process Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Annealing and Pickling Line Operations Process Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.
Overview
The ideal candidate will participate as a member of the project team as the Operations Process Engineer for the Annealing and Pickling line, launching a new facility, participating in design reviews, assessing equipment quality, and developing commissioning plans.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in developing and maintaining an effective technical team responsible for cold mill process technology and development
- Leading major improvement projects: improving process and product capabilities, throughput, cost (yield), energy and environmental performance
- Providing technical support for all team members, reporting process performance to senior management, and managing/improving statistical systems that define product/process capabilities
- Developing/improving inspection and testing methods, driving functionality and performance of process models/control systems
- Demonstrating the company values of safety, teamwork, accountability, relationships, and sustainability

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering: Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Materials (or sufficient experience to demonstrate the command of the subject matter)
- Sufficient experience in the components that make up the APL: both natural gas and electric soaking furnaces, pickling, in a continuous steel processing operation
Requirements
- Knowledge of steel strip properties and applications
- Demonstrated problem solving acumen
- Demonstrated understanding of control systems, instrumentation, and process models
- Strong work ethic that enables working through obstacles that are common in a green field project
- Strong teamwork and a hands-on working approach
- Advanced skills in data analysis, statistics (design of experiments, data analysis and model formulation)
- Leadership (leading group problem solving and influencing peer groups in a positive way)
- Demonstrates strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to develop technical presentations and competently communicate interpersonally and technical papers
- Competency in handling fast-paced environment, strong organizational skills, multi-tasking, and prioritizing proficiency
- Demonstrates high degree of professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality
Shift
Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads. Hybrid work opportunities and flexible work hours are available.
