Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Cloud Data Architect for a W-2 contract to direct-hire opportunity near Herdon, Virginia.

Currently, this is a remote-first position, and this position may be required to periodically work on-site at our Herdon, Virginia office (the frequency would depend on the department/division's requirements).

Summary:

The Senior Architect, Cloud Data is a member of the Chief Data Office and plays a lead role in the overall design and implementation of the client’s Enterprise Data Ecosystem, a cloud-based architecture which provisions data to enable the delivery of our client’s services. The Senior Architect works to instantiate business logic in our Enterprise Data Model and to employ innovative, cloud-based concepts and technologies in the delivery of our Enterprise Data Ecosystem. The Senior Architect will also oversee the full enterprise data delivery lifecycle as they design and implement solutions in accordance with company and departmental policies and procedures and with an eye towards future innovation in support of the data science and research goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Define, create and enhance business-oriented data models, focused on enterprise value and product-specific data needs. Includes entity-relationship data modeling from soliciting and interpreting business rules to the delivery of conceptual, logical, and physical data models that enforce these rules in the data ecosystem.
  • Design and implement requirements-driven cloud data solutions with focus on the integrity, availability, timeliness, and traceability of data through the delivery lifecycle.
  • Foster relationships and interview data consumers, data owners and data stewards to understand current and future business data needs.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the functionality in each line of business to ensure that the structure and use of the data supports the functions and features of the applications.
  • Play a lead role in the enhancement of an enterprise-wide data architecture to meet current and future business needs for projects and products.
  • Play a key role in establishing and applying enterprise data management principles and standards.
  • Consider performance, data quality, data security, data governance, risk limitation and scalability in data architecture designs and implementation.
  • Participate in our client’s move toward Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) of cloud applications.
  • Create and maintain the necessary data architecture artifacts, including data model documentation, data mapping documentation and enterprise metadata content.
  • Lead the overall design and implementation of our client’s Enterprise Data Ecosystem, a cloud-based architecture which provisions data to enable the delivery of services.
  • Provide technical leadership on data projects, which includes coaching and training junior and new staff. Also participate in interviewing candidates for data-related positions.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects and Data Scientists to drive the evolution of a target enterprise data architecture and integration strategies.
  • Work creatively and collaboratively with business and IT peers and partners at all levels of the organization to implement solutions and overcome delivery challenges.
  • Translate business concepts and logic into technical requirements for data engineers and other team members.
  • Actively participate in project level design reviews, Architecture Review Board (ARB) reviews, and provide feedback on design approaches being reviewed.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technology and research new cloud-based data technologies, enterprise data architecture methods and techniques to identify opportunities to increase value and gain efficiencies in our overall data delivery lifecycle.
  • Write clear, concise, and accurate architecture documentation, and review data movement code to ensure it transforms data correctly and that it meets the business requirements for data delivery.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. A combination of education and experience including military service will also be considered.
  • 10 years of hands-on technical work with data architecture, database technologies and applications.
  • 5 years technical leadership experience.
  • 1 year of related AWS cloud-based data platform experience.
  • Enterprise Data modeling and Database design, Data Warehousing, Master Data Management and Metadata solutions (experience with Data Vault architecture preferred).
  • Cloud-based data delivery technologies (AWS-specific experience preferred – Redshift, RDS, PostreSQL, DynamoDB, DMS, S3, Glue, Orchestration, etc.)
  • Data integration across multiple large-scale systems.
  • Multi-tier database-driven application architecture.
  • Working knowledge of SVN, GIT, AWS Code Commit.
  • Data architecture strategy, planning, and program execution.
  • Collaborating with business users to understand business and functional requirements and incorporating these into the overall enterprise data architecture.
  • A solid understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and experience with Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Proficiency in:
  • Authoring required conceptual, logical, and physical data models and data architecture artifacts.
  • Establishing and leading data architecture governance processes.
  • Cloud computing technologies and current computing trends.
  • Creative problem-solving and innovative solutioning.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization, including management.

Desired Qualifications:
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Big Data Certification, preferred.
