Mechanical Analysis Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Analysis Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
This is a dedicated position focused on analyzing the mechanical performance of various mechanical components and testing equipment under high temperature/pressure environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform stress analysis for test equipment and components using FEA and hand calculations.
- Present analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Interface with the mechanical testing teams to ensure test requirements are met.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams on requirements and inputs.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
- Perform peer review to maintain the expected quality standard as per the engineering quality assurance plan.
- Work as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.
Qualifications
- B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university.
- Minimum of 5+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 2+ years with an M.S. degree, or 0+ years with Ph.D. degree.
Requirements
- Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, and materials failure mechanism.
- Demonstrated experience in structural analysis, buckling analysis, thermal analysis, and seismic analysis.
- Working experience with equipment design and analysis codes and standards such as AISC, and ASME BPVC and Piping Code.
- Experienced with conceptual design and sizing equipment and structural components through basic calculation and utilizing Mathcad.
- Strong communication skills and collaborative teamwork is highly desired.
- Possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
- Highly skilled performing finite element analysis of mechanical components using Ansys and/or ABAQUS.
- Experienced with implementing and interpretation of AISC code and ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code.
- Working knowledge of computer code development and knowledgeable in programming tools such as Python.
- Working experience utilizing Mathcad.
- Previous experience in the nuclear industry.
