Stationary Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Stationary Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Andover, Massachusetts.
Overview
This role involves operating and maintaining critical building systems, including high-pressure steam boilers, hot water systems, centrifugal chillers, and a cogeneration plant with two electricity-generating turbines. The position ensures the efficient and safe operation of these systems while adhering to safety and environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Understand and comply with all environmental, safety, and health programs and procedures.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain high-pressure steam and hot water boilers in full compliance with manufacturer recommendations and applicable permits/regulations.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain site centrifugal chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and related equipment to ensure reliability and efficiency.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the cogeneration plant, including turbines generating electricity and steam.
- Monitor water testing, treatment, and chemical usage for boilers and chilled water systems, ensuring compliance with water safety management plans.
- Operate control room to respond to alarm conditions on a 24/7 basis, with backup support available.
- Monitor building automation systems to ensure proper operation of boiler, chiller, and air handling equipment.
- Document and record all activities accurately, including equipment readings and incidents.
- Monitor fuel storage systems, maintaining logs and reports in compliance with permits and regulations.
- Review, understand, and follow site operations procedures for equipment.
- Write reports on incidents and equipment failures.
- Respond to service requests and provide feedback to the chief engineer, adhering to codes and standards.
- Read and interpret repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
- Monitor subcontractor activities and assist craft technicians in maintenance tasks as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum Massachusetts 3rd class stationary engineer’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to work any shift as required for shift coverage
- 2+ years of experience operating 2nd class steam plants
Shift: 4:30pm-4:30am, 36/48; 12-hour shifts
