Talascend is currently seeking a Process Control Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Mountain Pass, California.

Overview

The process control engineer supports plant operations by designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC/SCADA systems, instrumentation, and control strategies to optimize manufacturing processes. The role involves working with various teams to implement projects, improve existing systems, and ensure operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support plant operations within the PLC/SCADA environment and update graphics within the SCADA GE iFix HMI
  • Program ladder logic, function blocks, and structured text in RSLogix
  • Generate equipment tag IDs within OSI-Soft PI and support Ethernet-based network infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot and install process equipment such as actuated valves and instruments, remote I/O panels, SCADA servers, and workstations
  • Draw and oversee new construction drawings and ensure design and project management standards are followed
  • Design control and instrumentation systems, develop project scopes, and manage project timelines and budgets
  • Work with process engineers to develop control schemes and strategies to meet plant operation requirements
  • Program PLC logic and graphical HMI software, troubleshoot instrumentation, and resolve system issues
  • Manage PI data historian tags, create graphical displays, and generate reports
  • Assist in equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintain process documentation
  • Maintain I/O lists, control specifications, and P&IDs, and develop process control procedures
  • Provide technical training and supervision to operators and processes
  • Participate in ongoing process improvement projects and large capital projects as needed
  • Identify production issues, bottlenecks, and work with cross-functional teams to resolve them

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field (preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience as a process control engineer in a chemical, mining, petroleum, or heavy industrial setting
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record are required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC systems
  • Experience in purchasing and setting up control and instrumentation systems (PLC with data historian)
  • Experience with instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, control valves, flowmeters, pH, VFDs, etc.
  • Experience with unit operations like reactors, filters, pumps, wet scrubbers, kilns, dryers
  • Solvent extraction, chlor-alkali, or co-gen power plant experience is a plus
  • Experience in daily maintenance troubleshooting and process improvements from concept to installation
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, RSLogix, RSLinx, RSNetworx for ControlNet, RS Factory Talk, HART protocols, and Microsoft SQL Server
  • Ability to create, read, and modify electrical and control diagrams, PFDs, and P&IDs
  • Production process tuning and optimization experience
  • Strong communication and computer skills, including Microsoft Office
