Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

The role involves supporting electric utility design engineering projects, including developing work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems, performing engineering calculations, and supporting construction activities. The position offers opportunities for professional growth and development in various technical areas.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV
  • Ensure compliance with safety requirements as well as design and quality standards
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and conduct engineering design work in the office
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis, conductor sags and tensions, voltage drop, and flicker analysis
  • Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs)
  • Provide engineering support during and after construction, including post-construction reviews
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Assist in developing work packages for various utility projects, including coordination of conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, with occasional outdoor work
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS
  • Experience with NESC standards
  • Knowledge of design standards relevant to utility distribution projects
