Talascend is currently seeking an experienced Construction Cost Estimator to support large-scale projects. This is a remote, direct hire opportunity with our client.

Overview:


This role is responsible for developing accurate and detailed cost estimates across all phases of project development, from early conceptual budgets through detailed bid-level estimates.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial construction estimating such as power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, or other heavy industrial environments. Combined cycle experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop conceptual, budgetary, and detailed construction cost estimates for EPC projects.
  • Prepare complete project estimates including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, indirect costs, and contingencies.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and scope documents to determine cost drivers and project requirements.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and develop unit rate-based estimates.
  • Evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing and incorporate into estimates.
  • Work with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to validate scope and assumptions.
  • Identify cost risks, opportunities, and potential value engineering options.
  • Maintain and utilize historical cost data and estimating databases.
  • Support proposal development, bid reviews, and project budgeting activities.
  • Assist with cost tracking and forecasting as needed.
  • Travel: Up to 25% as required for site visits or project support.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of construction cost estimating experience in heavy industrial or capital projects.
  • Experience estimating large-scale projects in at least one of the following:
    • Oil & Gas
    • Petrochemical / Chemical
    • Power / Energy (any generation type)
    • Heavy industrial construction
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, labor productivity, and unit rate estimating.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in estimating tools (e.g., Aspen Capital Cost Estimator, HeavyBid, Timberline, or similar.         
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with estimating tools or cost models.

Preferred Experience:
  • EPC or large capital project estimating experience.
  • Exposure to full bid development or lump sum pricing.
  • Experience supporting vendor and subcontractor bid evaluation Proven experience developing Class 1–5 estimates (AACE guidelines preferred).
  • Familiarity with cost databases, benchmarking, or historical estimating systems.
