Product Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Product Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Auburn Hills, Michigan.
Overview
This role involves owning the design and engineering release of active aerodynamic systems for production vehicles, managing systems end to end from concept through launch, and coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional teams to meet quality, performance, and timing targets.
Responsibilities
- Lead supplier design reviews and ensure designs meet requirements and specifications.
- Deliver systems that meet quality, performance, timing, weight, and cost targets.
- Collaborate with advanced engineering to define and package designs prior to sourcing.
- Provide regional, on-site mechatronics component support as needed.
- Develop and maintain boundary diagrams, interface matrices, parameter diagrams, DFMEA, and DVP&R.
- Ensure integration with adjacent components, network communications, and ECUs.
- Manage design integrity and releases in NX/Teamcenter, including EBOM, change management, and hardware/software releases/changes.
- Plan and execute analysis and validation activities, including benchmarking and technology investigations.
- Drive issue management, root cause analysis, and corrective actions; support quality and warranty initiatives.
- Support RFQ activities, technical evaluations, and business cases, identifying cost-effective solutions.
- Own program timing and deliverables, ensuring milestones are met and status communicated.
- Coordinate regulatory compliance activities with suppliers and internal teams.
- Direct suppliers in developing, testing, and releasing hardware and software to meet vehicle and subsystem objectives.
- Apply design best practices and lessons learned to projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of product development experience, with 5 or more preferred.
- Experience with mechatronics or moving systems such as actuators, deployable mechanisms, shutters, flaps, or cooling systems.
- Experience owning supplier designed components and leading suppliers to meet targets.
- Familiarity with system integration into vehicles, requirements, testing, and validation activities.
- Ability to work independently and own projects from concept through launch.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exterior components or plastics experience.
- Injection molding or design for assembly exposure.
- Plant or launch experience.
- Ability to read and understand CFD reports (without performing them).
- Experience in aero systems is helpful but not required.
