Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Piping Design Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

This role involves planning, developing, and reviewing plant design and piping work, producing drawings and documentation, and preparing design estimates for projects within the industrial manufacturing sector. The engineer will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and ensure designs meet all regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, coordinate, and review design work within a small-size plant design and piping work group on medium-sized projects or assignments in support of the global business unit.
  • Produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design scope, including earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing, ensuring compliance with applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Coordinate and interface with the technical work of engineers, scientists, specialists, designers, and drafters.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and recommend solutions to upper management.
  • Facilitate technical discussions with clients, suppliers, and regulators.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of design estimates and work plans, managing project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop engineering procedures, design guides, and administrative practices.
  • Coordinate with client representatives for work approvals.
  • Review key engineering drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.
  • Mentor designers and drafters through on-the-job training and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) with 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawings, and graphic arts.
  • Advanced experience using 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD Revit and Navisworks.
  • Experience developing, managing, and maintaining BIM models with defined LOD specifications (LOD 100-500) for plant design and piping.
  • Experience with 3D modeling of complex piping systems, pipe supports, and mechanical equipment for large industrial projects (e.g., semiconductor fabs, data centers).
  • Previous modularization, OSM, and modular piping design execution experience.
  • Experience managing multi-discipline interfaces and overseeing global 3D models.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and utilize documents and drawings from other project groups effectively.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate to the job site as needed.
