Payroll Specialist

Talascend is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Houston, Texas.

Overview

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for performing accurate and timely payroll processing, resolving complex payroll issues, and supporting end-to-end payroll operations for a large multistate employee base in compliance with company policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Perform full on-cycle weekly and biweekly payroll processing for approximately 60,000 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Process regular and off-cycle payrolls, verifying data, approval, and adherence to policies and schedules.
• Manage payroll banking transactions including stop payments, rejects, and reversals, ensuring timely resolution.
• Generate and analyze reports to identify discrepancies and support payroll reconciliation and audits.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters in a professional and timely manner.
• Collaborate with payroll team and cross-functional partners to meet service commitments and resolve issues.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to address payroll-related concerns and ensure timely completion of activities.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements related to accuracy, controls, and efficiency.
• Ensure confidentiality and security of payroll information at all times.

Qualifications

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, human resources, or a related field, or high school diploma with four years of relevant work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of multi-state payroll experience.
• At least 3 years of experience with Oracle HCM Cloud.

Preferred Qualifications

• Payroll Certification such as PCP, FPC, or CPP.
• Strong proficiency with Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis).
• Knowledge of Oracle HCM Cloud, Service Now, and UKG Timekeeper.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
