Mechanical Maintenance Manager
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Manager for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.
Overview
The role involves overseeing operations within the mechanical maintenance division of a steelmaking team, supervising mechanics and staff to meet business objectives. The manager focuses on managing various critical systems and ensuring safety, efficiency, and quality in maintenance operations.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for safety, environmental, quality, and production for the mechanical maintenance team
- Lead and participate in incident root cause analysis and corrective actions for failures, including safety, environmental, quality, and production issues
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and investigate related incidents
- Ensure mechanics are appropriately trained to perform their duties safely
- Maintain up-to-date work instructions and HIRAC procedures for refractory
- Lead the mechanical team to achieve performance metrics related to production, cost, and quality
- Communicate and provide leadership and vision to the mechanical team
- Demonstrate and promote company values: safety, teamwork, accountability, relationships, and sustainability
- Organize work schedules, vacations, and staffing replacements for the mechanical team
- Evaluate team member performance and develop their skills, including disciplinary actions when necessary
- Ensure workplace housekeeping is maintained at all times
- Identify corrective measures if performance targets are not met
- Collaborate with MHS, LMF, RH, CC, and lab teams for overall mill operations
- Communicate with operations regarding maintenance needs and equipment performance
- Follow up on process parameters, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions
- Manage budget and financial performance of mechanical maintenance activities, including stock levels
- Manage performance of contractors and vendors
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities
- Provide resources and support for engineers and specialists to meet their objectives
- Demonstrate commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and sustainability standards
- Foster an environment of trust and respect within the team
- Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025 standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Business, Management, or similar field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical team leadership or management experience in a steelmaking environment
- In-depth knowledge of steelmaking mechanical processes and components
- Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Intermediate computer skills, including SAP and Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills working with professionals, operations and maintenance personnel, and tradespeople
- Technical knowledge of caster, EAF, ladle metallurgy facility, RH degassing, raw material handling system, and fugitive emission system is desired
