Rotatable Plug Assembly Component Design Engineer -Remote
Talascend is currently seeking a Component Design Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
The role involves designing solutions for reactor structures and components, specifically focusing on rotatable plug assembly equipment for a next-generation advanced nuclear reactor. The engineer will collaborate with a team to develop and optimize equipment designs from requirements through final execution.
Responsibilities
- Design reactor structures and components based on requirements and specifications.
- Coordinate inputs and requirements from engineering and project teams to develop equipment and component designs.
- Perform scoping analysis and calculations for different design options.
- Interface with engineering analysis activities and present design results for reviews.
- Assess technical merit of solutions and lead design review sessions.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers to resolve design and fabrication issues.
- Support the application of nuclear industry best practices and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of four years of equipment or component design experience; relevant M.S. degree credited as two years of experience.
- Experience working with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III.
- Experience writing design specifications.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Experience with finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and modeling tools such as ANSYS.
- Strong communication and writing skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Familiarity with CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
- High level of trust, integrity, and teamwork-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with slewing ring bearings.
- Experience with elastomeric seals.
