Thermal Hydraulic Software Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Thermal Hydraulic Software Engineer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
This role involves supporting the computational thermal-hydraulic analysis of nuclear reactor cores, focusing on the sodium-cooled Natrium Reactor program. The engineer will perform thermal hydraulic analysis, develop and maintain software models, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate reactor core designs.
Responsibilities
- Perform thermal hydraulic analysis and engineering calculations of nuclear reactor core components and structures.
- Refine core assembly designs and evaluate their thermal-hydraulic behavior under various conditions.
- Use in-house thermal-hydraulic software, computational fluid dynamic software, and hand calculations to support reactor design efforts.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to analyze design considerations for reactor components.
- Provide technical presentations on analyses performed and prepare formal and informal reports to document findings and recommendations.
- Support the development, maintenance, and modeling of nuclear thermal-hydraulic software using Python and C++ programming languages.
- Evaluate flow distribution, pressure drop, and heat transfer in nuclear reactor cores.
- Work with high-performance computing environments and ensure compliance with software quality standards.
Qualifications
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical, Nuclear, or other relevant technical engineering areas from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience with a B.S. degree, or 3+ years with an M.S. or D. degree, demonstrating ability in thermal-hydraulic analysis.
- Strong background in nuclear thermal-hydraulics analysis, flow distribution, pressure drop, and heat transfer evaluation.
- Demonstrated expertise in Python programming for software development, maintenance, and modeling.
- Proficiency in C++ programming language and numerical solver development considered a plus.
- Experience with liquid metal thermal-hydraulics or nuclear system analysis codes highly preferred.
- Experience working within high-performance computing environments and with nuclear industry standards is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document calculations thoroughly.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a high degree of trust and integrity.
