Talascend is currently seeking a Structural Design Engineer for a remote direct hire opportunity with our client.

Overview:


We are seeking a Structural Design Engineer to support the engineering, procurement, and construction execution of large-scale combined cycle power plant projects. This role is responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of structural systems supporting critical power generation equipment and industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate has experience in heavy industrial or power generation projects and understands the fast-paced execution environment associated with EPC combined cycle construction projects. This individual will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, vendors, construction personnel, and project management throughout all phases of project execution.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform structural engineering and design for combined cycle power plant projects
  • Develop and review:
    • Structural steel designs
    • Equipment support structures
    • Pipe rack structures
    • Turbine and generator foundations
    • Concrete foundations and slabs
    • Cable tray and platform supports
    • Building structures and industrial facilities
  • Prepare structural calculations, specifications, and engineering design packages
  • Coordinate structural design activities with civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and construction teams
  • Support engineering deliverables from conceptual design through IFC (Issued for Construction) packages
  • Review vendor drawings and equipment loading data to ensure proper structural integration
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, constructability reviews, and project coordination meetings
  • Assist with resolving field design issues, RFIs, and construction support requests
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, industry standards, and client specifications
  • Support procurement and subcontractor coordination for fabricated steel and structural materials
  • Participate in schedule development and help identify engineering risks impacting project execution
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required
  • 7–15 years of structural engineering/design experience in EPC, power generation, or heavy industrial environments
  • Previous combined cycle power plant experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Structural steel design
    • Reinforced concrete design
    • Heavy equipment foundations
    • Dynamic loading considerations
    • Industrial building structures
  • Experience with applicable codes and standards including:
    • AISC
    • ACI
    • ASCE
    • IBC
    • OSHA requirements
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software such as:
    • STAAD.Pro
    • RISA
    • SAP2000
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit or SmartPlant preferred
  • Strong understanding of EPC project workflows and multidisciplinary coordination
  • Ability to work in fast-paced project environments with aggressive schedules
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • Experience supporting greenfield combined cycle projects
  • Experience with turbine foundation design and dynamic equipment support structures
  • Field engineering or construction support experience
  • Familiarity with modularization and constructability planning
  • Experience supporting startup and commissioning activities
