Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.

Overview

The role involves supporting a highly automated cold rolling mill by analyzing production disturbances, troubleshooting unscheduled maintenance issues, and developing work orders from inception to completion. The engineer will work closely with maintenance and production personnel to ensure operational efficiency and equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels and anticipating needs
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures for mechanical and technical work
  • Prepare and present reports by analyzing information and identifying trends
  • Schedule, plan, and execute short- and long-term maintenance activities, ensuring effective preventive maintenance
  • Prepare data related to cost, availability, and quality
  • Troubleshoot, adjust, and help maintain machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Observe safety protocols, review accident and incident reports, and assist in investigations
  • Coordinate, train, and lead maintenance technicians for specific tasks
  • Support improvement programs and project groups aimed at optimizing equipment quality, cost, and performance
  • Coordinate personnel as needed based on team directives
  • Demonstrate safety commitment and foster a collaborative team environment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent of direct experience
  • 3+ years’ heavy industrial experience with degree or 7+ years’ experience without degree
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering practices and heavy industrial equipment maintenance
  • Technical knowledge of rotational equipment, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, pump systems, and related machinery
  • Experience using AutoCAD
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance practices and predictive maintenance techniques
  • Experience with SAP preferred
  • Cold rolling experience and project management experience are a plus
  • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders and work collaboratively in teams
  • Willingness to work closely with technicians and contractors to ensure proper work practices
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adopt innovations in digital and technology applications
