Chief Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking a Chief Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Detroit, Michigan.
Overview
The position involves managing and overseeing the daily operations of facility maintenance, including supervision of engineering systems, safety compliance, and team leadership to ensure efficient and effective building operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the facility maintenance team, develop strategic plans, and oversee safety protocols.
- Identify safety hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain documentation for building infrastructure.
- Oversee design, implementation, and maintenance of engineering systems including HVAC, refrigeration, water cooling, and electrical equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance, report malfunctions, and oversee repairs and preventive maintenance programs.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering staff and stay updated on industry trends and technologies.
- Train staff, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a safe, inclusive work environment.
- Collaborate with other departments and external vendors, communicate project status, and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Manage departmental budgets, resources, and projects to meet operational and financial goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of documented work experience in the HVAC or electrical trade, or minimum 4 years of work experience in the HVAC or electrical trade with 2 years of supporting education.
- 7+ years of facility-related work experience including customer service, leadership, and supervisory experience.
- Managerial experience is required.
- Knowledge of maintenance processes, construction planning, and execution.
- Exposure to HVAC, fluid handling, mechanical and electrical systems engineering and operation.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office and CMMS systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven record of providing exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or within 90 days of employment).
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent (preferred but not required).
- 2-year degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the duties of this position through relevant experience, training, or education.
