Talascend is currently seeking a Rotating Machinery Subject Matter Expert for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.

Overview

This role involves overseeing the design, testing, and manufacturing of large nuclear fluid pumps, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting pump development, maintenance, and testing activities. The position requires coordinating design efforts and providing technical guidance within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for first-of-a-kind large nuclear fluid pumps through design, testing, and manufacturing.
  • Review supplier deliverables to ensure pump design operates as needed.
  • Support pump development by authoring and maintaining specifications and other design inputs.
  • Support pump maintenance and operation planning.
  • Plan and oversee separate and integrated effects testing, including pump qualification programs.
  • Ensure proper application of applicable design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA).
  • Provide technical guidance on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish, maintain, and allocate system requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Oversee development and integration of design documentation, including P&ID’s, 3D models, and interface drawings.
  • Lead preparation and coordination of complete design packages (calculations, reports, drawings, specifications).
  • Support project planning and scheduling to ensure alignment with overall plant design delivery milestones.
  • Adapt to and learn new responsibilities in a dynamic and evolving work environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 15+ years of direct experience with proven mechanical systems skills.
  • Experience with large vertical pump design and manufacture.
  • Experience with full hardware lifecycle, from cradle to grave.
  • Experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration, especially with nuclear handling process systems, fluid systems, or fluid system component design is highly desired.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence.
  • Self-starter with the ability to coordinate and lead a design team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage projects with many competing objectives and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • High level of trust, integrity, openness in communication, and teamwork-oriented mindset.
