Mechanical Systems Designer
Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Systems Designer for a remote, contract opportunity with our client.
Overview
this role involves designing and integrating mechanical systems related to nuclear and industrial applications, with a focus on sodium processing systems. the position requires collaboration with vendors, analysis, and ensuring hardware design compliance with relevant codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- design of nuclear and industrial systems from requirements through final design
- provide oversight to vendors developing mechanical system and component designs
- coordinate review of analyses such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, and heat transfer, integrating results into plant design delivery
- integrate as-designed hardware into overall system design
- identify and ensure application of correct design codes like ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA
- analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex system designs
- support planning and maintain schedule adherence for design activities and overall plant design delivery
- manage drawing packages, including P&IDs, 3D models, and interface drawings
- provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects
- establish and maintain system requirements and specification documents, such as engineering design specifications
- propose, initiate, and oversee testing programs for plant system qualification
- generate design packages, including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications
- contribute to the dynamic and evolving environment by applying new skills as needed
Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline from an accredited university
- 4+ years of direct experience in mechanical or chemical systems
- experience in high temperature and multi-discipline integration, especially with nuclear chemical process systems, fluid systems, or component design
- strong mechanical and/or chemical aptitude with experience in chemistry, fluid and structural analysis, and engineering drawing interpretation
- excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
- attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence
- self-starter with ability to lead a design team and handle multiple projects with competing objectives
- experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 (desired)
