Automotive Instrumentation Technician
Talascend is currently seeking an Automotive Instrumentation Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Allen Park, Michigan.
Overview
The Automotive Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing test equipment in development vehicles, building and calibrating sensors, and wiring harnesses. The role involves hands-on work with automotive and instrumentation systems, with training provided for relevant tasks.
Responsibilities
- Build and install low voltage automotive and instrumentation wiring harnesses, auxiliary battery and electrical systems.
- Install, adjust, and calibrate sensors, shunts, fiber optics, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems.
- Collaborate with customers, fabricators, and mechanics to identify sensor installation locations according to instrumentation requirement list.
- Assist in performing functional inspection and prove-out of instrumentation according to instrumentation quality assurance.
- Work with electronic functional and measurement tools, such as power supplies, function generators, and multimeters.
- Maintain records by entering notes into service repair requests.
- Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Participate in daily shop organization and clean-up.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of mechanic experience, personal or professional.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate in automotive technology or related field.
- National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification(s).
- State mechanic certification(s).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience performing soldering, crimping, tube bending, component layout, and packaging on vehicles or subsystems.
- Knowledge of proper installation of thermocouples and pressure transducers (nice to have).
