Operating Engineer
Talascend is currently seeking an Operating Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Phoenix, Arizona.
Overview
The main function of this role is to operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair facility equipment across various systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards are met. Candidates should have technical expertise in at least one craft area such as electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations, with the ability to be multi-skilled.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, life safety, and control systems in the facility.
- Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general upkeep.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and replacing parts to ensure HVAC systems and related equipment operate efficiently.
- Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper equipment operation.
- Follow safety protocols for the storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventories.
- Monitor the quality and pricing of work performed by outside contractors.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and identifying potential hazards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems.
- Ability to analyze operation and troubleshoot various mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- EPA 608 Type II Certification.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Two years of trades schooling in electrical system design, refrigeration, and HVAC.
The shift schedule is Monday through Friday, from 6am to 2:30pm, with on-call duties every 4 weeks, lasting up to 6 weeks when fully staffed. This position is onsite, and on-site parking is available.
