Talascend is currently seeking a Powertrain Build Technician for a contract opportunity with our client in Plymouth, Michigan.
Overview
The build technician will support powertrain system and vehicle testing operations, as well as prototype manufacturing and assembly projects. The role involves mechanical assembly, measurements, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure quality and efficiency in prototype builds.
Responsibilities
- Support prototype system build activities including low-volume system builds for motorsports applications.
- Provide mechanical assembly and installation assistance to support engine, powertrain, and vehicle-related engineering programs.
- Conduct build measurements to specifications provided by lead technicians or engineers.
- Execute build and assembly plans for powertrain components or systems.
- Utilize critical thinking to develop unique assembly solutions when design prints are incorrect or unavailable.
- Consult with and provide feedback to design, analysis, and development engineering teams on build and assembly matters.
- Assist engineers with creating build documents such as assembly manuals and BOMs for internal or external projects.
- Fit parts to geometric design tolerances specified on drawings supplied by engineering teams.
- Work with design engineers to check drawings for feasibility and manufacturability.
- Maintain workshop organization, throughput, and efficiency through adherence to and development of workshop processes.
- Provide recommendations for parts or equipment needed to improve workshop capabilities and throughput.
- Communicate with customers to ensure maximum satisfaction with workshop outputs.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of prototype build experience in the automotive environment.
- Experience with engine building in an automotive environment.
- Knowledge of powertrain build and assembly operations and best practices.
- Ability to think creatively and develop unique solutions based on prior skills and experience.
- Understanding of a powertrain build and test environment.
