Talascend is currently seeking a Industrial Safety Specialist for a contract opportunity with our client in Orange County, California.
Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced project industrial health and safety specialist to ensure a safe and healthy work environment on a construction and inspection work scope in a chemical-related project. The role involves implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and overseeing contractor safety management.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues, especially in establishing new processes, evaluating new equipment, and with transfer of work processes including utilizing a new workforce. Complete work permits, task-specific risk assessments, assess and implement mitigations, and provide daily safety oversight of work scope assigned.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations including AQMD.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct safety training and education programs for employees and contractors.
- Perform regular safety inspections and audits of facilities and equipment.
- Collaborate with contractors, management, and employees to promote a culture of safety. Communicate daily and weekly priorities, progress, risks, and work to mitigate impacts.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training, and compliance activities.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.
- Provide support in emergency response planning and drills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a health and safety role in a manufacturing industry, preferably in the aerospace or defense manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant health and safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess critical path, project progress, and potential impacts on overall project schedule and budget. Identifies and anticipates technical problems and offers solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Due to export compliance, must be a US person.
- Ability to conduct effective training sessions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.
- Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ISO 45001 or similar health and safety management systems.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
- Experience with transformational projects in a manufacturing environment or complex launch projects including the introduction of new equipment, processes, and workforce into a manufacturing environment and performing associated safety risk assessments.
- Experience in conducting ergonomic assessments.
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, preferably in a matrix environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Position is on second shift, 4 pm to 12 am.
