Talascend is currently seeking a Systems Administrator for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Overview
This role involves supporting a secure and enterprise-scale environment within a federal regulatory context, focusing on multi-cloud solutions, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Responsibilities
- Operate effectively across multiple cloud environments—Azure, AWS, GCP—without reliance on rigid team boundaries.
- Develop and implement reusable cloud patterns and solutions using Infrastructure as Code for secure, self-service delivery.
- Continuously improve compliance and cyberposture using AWS Security Hub CSPM, Config/Cloudtrail, Guardduty, and Azure Defender integration.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues within AWS cloud environments, documenting and communicating solutions as part of knowledge transfer.
- Diagnose and address network connectivity issues, maintain and correct security groups, route tables, subnet and VPC allocations, VPNs, and peerings.
- Manage resource costs, budgets, anomalies, and generate reports effectively.
- Manage big data analytics platforms and workloads, optimizing data tier management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems or relevant field and 4+ years of practical experience in the field or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience; additional years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
- Must have an active US Public Trust clearance.
- Ability to self-manage work tasks using Microsoft 365-based tools.
- Proven ability to independently resolve issues, improve operations through self-driven initiatives, and operate with a growth mindset.
- Hands-on experience building and architecting multi-cloud networks with secure routing and firewalls.
- Understanding of regulatory controls, baselines, and security policies within AWS cloud environments (CIS benchmarks, STIG, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure as code tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Operational exposure and experience with GCP.
- Operational exposure and experience with containerization technologies and methodologies.
